Anja Barešić Presents AI4Health.Cro at SoftCOM 2023 in Split

24 September 2023 – The 31st International Science Conference on Software, Telecommunications, and Computer Networks – SoftCOM 2023, took place at the Amphora Hotel from the 21st to the 23rd of September. Amidst a program, Dr. Anja Barešić, the AI4Health.Cro project Coordinator gave a focused presentation on the project showcasing AI4Health.Cro services tailored for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), small enterprises with medium market capitalisation, as well as Public bodies and entities not engaged in economic activities, highlighting the project’s deep commitment to advancing AI applications across diverse sectors.

The conference showcased an extensive scientific program consisting of 17 sessions, ranging from machine learning applications and software development to advanced educational technologies and the emerging paradigm of the Internet of Things. The overall program featured over 140 scientific and professional presentations, with 98 of these to be included in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

Parallel to the academic sessions, SoftCOM 2023 also hosted an Economic Forum that comprised two-panel discussions and three professional workshops. The panel titled “Digital Transformation – the Rise of EDIHs” was moderated by Ivana Vuka, Head of the Technology Transfer Office at the University of Split. Participants included representatives from the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH): Damir Medved, Director of EDIH Adria, Rijeka; Dr. Anja Barešić, Coordinator for EDIH AI4Health at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb; and Prof. Hrvoje Džapo, CROBOHUB++, FER Zagreb. Another panel, “AI From University to Local IT”, was steered by Damir Brčić, Head of the Digital Dalmatia Centre, Split-Dalmatia County, and featured contributions from Professor Saša Mladenović, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Split; Luka Farkaš, ATOS; and Ivana Biliškov, Codeasy/Necogi.

Beyond her introduction of the project, Dr. Barešić delved deep into the comprehensive services offered by AI4Health.Cro, emphasising their crucial role in aiding businesses during the intricate process of digital transformation. Her compelling presentation underlined the project’s objective to empower SMEs, startups and innovators allowing them to seamlessly integrate AI technology into real-world applications in the healthcare sector.

She outlining the scope and impact of AI4Health, emphasised the transformative power of AI in the healthcare sector. Her insights into the AI4Health project provided a compelling case for the need to integrate artificial intelligence more deeply into healthcare, benefiting both practitioners and patients alike.

The breadth and depth of knowledge shared during this discussion, particularly around the theme of AI’s role in healthcare, made it a highlight of SoftCOM.
