It fails when teams hit the reality wall: real-world data, real-world constraints, and not enough compute to iterate fast, validate properly, and ship safely.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why AI4Health.Cro was proud to be featured at the <strong>3rd Day of the Croatian Competence Centre for High Performance Computing (HR HPC CC)<\/strong>, hosted by <strong>SRCE (University of Zagreb Computing Centre)<\/strong> in <strong>Zagreb on 11\u201312 November 2025<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Spotlight: \u201cWhen the public helps doctors: the AI4Health.Cro challenge\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>In the programme block dedicated to real HPC use cases, <strong>Dr. Anja Bare\u0161i\u0107, <\/strong>project coordinator from the Ru\u0111er Bo\u0161kovi\u0107 Institute, delivered a talk titled <strong>\u201cWhen the public helps doctors: the AI4Health.Cro challenge\u201d<\/strong>, showing how high-performance computing underpins practical innovation in healthcare\u2014and sharing lessons learned from an AI4Health.Cro hackathon format.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The presentation highlighted how <strong>crowdsourcing and challenge-driven development<\/strong> can help close a persistent gap in healthtech: the need for <strong>up-to-date AI models trained and evaluated on real data from the Croatian healthcare system<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A key example: the challenge workflow for <strong>breast lesion detection in mammography images<\/strong>, including the technical setup, dataset handling, and why compute capacity is essential for running serious experimentation cycles\u2014not just one-off proofs of concept.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Why HPC matters for healthtech teams, and not only for researchers<\/h3>\n<p>For startups and product teams building in medical AI, HPC is not \u201cnice to have.\u201d It\u2019s what makes the difference between:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>slow iteration vs. rapid model testing and benchmarking<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>fragile experiments vs. reproducible pipelines<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>a promising prototype vs. an implementation-ready tool<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The HR HPC CC event itself reflected that direction: it combined a dedicated <strong>\u201cHPC for entrepreneurs\u201d<\/strong> workshop (focused on practical access to HPC resources and hands-on work on advanced compute infrastructure) with a programme designed around Europe-wide HPC initiatives, real use cases, and a panel on strengthening digital and AI capability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>AI4Health.Cro: building with the infrastructure reality in mind<\/h3>\n<p>AI4Health.Cro\u2019s approach is simple: start from validated healthcare needs, build with implementation constraints in mind, and connect innovation teams with the ecosystem required to scale, clinical partners, data readiness, evaluation pathways, and the compute that makes serious development possible.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re building at the intersection of medicine and AI, this is the standard we\u2019re betting on: <strong>less hype, more deployable capability<\/strong>\u2014with the technical backbone to prove it.&nbsp;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Health AI doesn\u2019t fail because of a lack of ideas.
