Upgrading Paediatric Diagnostics: The SENDD Launch Event at ZICER

On September 30, 2024, a transformative networking event took place at the Zagreb Innovation Centre (ZICER), titled “Innovation Shaping the Future of Pediatrics.” This event showcased SENDD (System for Early Neurological Deviation Detection), a cutting-edge diagnostic tool developed for the early detection of neurodevelopmental deviations in infants. The event was hosted by AI4Health.Cro, featuring our users TIS Grupa, highlighting our role in facilitating such innovative healthcare solutions through networking and collaborative platforms.

Dr. Goran Krakar, SENDD project leader from Poliklinika Sabol and a specialist in neuropediatrics, opened the event with a compelling lecture on the significance of assessing spontaneous movements in infants. He explained how the SENDD system integrates advanced AI algorithms and neural networks to analyze these movements accurately, enabling early identification of potential neurodevelopmental issues and ensuring timely interventions.

Following this, Tomislav Strgar, leader of the TIS.AI department at TIS Grupa, detailed the technical aspects of SENDD. He illustrated how the system utilizes computer vision and trained neural networks to scrutinize the quality and complexity of infants’ movements. He also introduced a mobile application that allows parents to easily record and submit videos of their children for analysis, combining AI insights with expert evaluations from neuropediatricians to provide precise diagnostics.

The highlight of the event was the panel discussion “Innovations Shaping the Future of Pediatrics,” moderated by Josip Kustić, Business Development Manager at TIS Grupa. The panel brought together renowned experts across medical and scientific fields:

  • Dr. Snježana Gverić, a pediatric and neonatology specialist, emphasized the critical importance of detecting developmental deviations early in high-risk infants.
  • Dr. Ivana Kern, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, highlighted the essential role of early rehabilitation and innovative diagnostic tools like SENDD.
  • Dr. Ana Katušić, an educational rehabilitator, discussed the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach in supporting children with neurodevelopmental challenges.
  • Dr. Goran Krakar shared insights from his practical application of SENDD, illustrating the significant impact of early diagnosis on developmental outcomes.
  • Dr. Anja Barešić from the Ruđer Bošković Institute and coordinator of the AI4Health.Cro project, spoke on the transformative potential of AI in medical diagnostics, especially in predicting long-term developmental outcomes for children.

The discussion underscored the vital role of technological innovations like SENDD in improving pediatric diagnostics and the importance of early and accurate identification of neurodevelopmental disorders to provide optimal care from the earliest stages.

The event concluded with Josip Kustić expressing gratitude to all participants for their engagement and support, noting how SENDD is set to redefine pediatric care through early and precise diagnostics. This networking event not only highlighted the innovative capabilities of SENDD but also demonstrated AI4Health.Cro’s commitment to promoting and supporting groundbreaking healthcare technologies.
